Although Marvelâs Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. firmly takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films have seemingly ignored the events of the TV series and Clark Greggâs Phil Coulson hasnât even had an opportunity to tell them that heâs alive!
However, characters from Marvel Netflix original series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist may unite Marvelâs TV and movie realms…at some point. During a press event for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that crossovers will occur, while praising Daredevilâs cast and offering an explanation as to why it hasnât happened yet:
I think [crossovers are] inevitable at some point, as weâre plotting the movies going forward and theyâre doing the shows. The schedules donât always quite match up to make that possible â itâs easier for them, theyâre more nimble and faster and produce things quicker than we do, which is one of the main reasons you see the repercussions of Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron in the show.
Another potential roadblock is the recent separation of Marvel Studiosâ theatrical arm from its TV production house. Feige now reports directly to Disneyâs Alan Horn, which allows Feige to bypass Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter. However, Perlmutter still controls the Marvel Studios TV shows, and would presumably have to sign off on any potential crossover with the films.
