When Marvel and ABC revealed “Marvel’s Most Wanted” to be the title of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff starring Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, it was assumed that the series would feature the duo as they hunted down super powered criminals in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it turns out that Mockingbird and Hunter are the ones being hunted on this show!

A description of the Marvel’s Most Wanted pilot has been released by ABC, and it implies a serious shakeup for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while also shedding some light on the role that Dominic Fortune (Delroy Lindo) will play in this series.

“Bobbi Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Lance Hunter of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., two ex-spies and ex-spouses who are on the run with no friends, no S.H.I.E.L.D. and a long list of enemies looking to claim a bounty on their heads. Able to trust no one but each other, Bobbi and Hunter form an uneasy alliance with Dominic Fortune, a rogue adventurer with a wealth of resources and even more adversaries, who agrees to protect them so long as they help him with his own agenda. These two heroes will help anyone in need, all while trying to uncover the conspiracy that put their own lives in jeopardy.”

If we can take that synopsis at face value, it means that either S.H.I.E.L.D. thinks that Mockingbird and Hunter are guilty or S.H.I.E.L.D. is literally not around to help them out of their current situation. During the third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the organization that was devastated by the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been edging closer to regaining its ties to the government. Perhaps all of that progress will be lost by the end of the season.

Either way, it’s hard to picture Mockingbird and Hunter’s friends turning on them or refusing to help them prove their innocence. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would also have a huge hole to fill without Hunter and Mockingbird as part of the main cast if Marvel’s Most Wanted goes to series. The ABC description also hinted that Marvel’s Most Wanted could be retitled Mockingbird.
