Marvel’s Jessica Jones to Guest Star in PATSY WALKER, A.K.A. HELLCAT!

As originally conceived by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos in Alias, Jessica Jones was best friends with Carol Danvers, the superheroine formerly known as Ms. Marvel. But because Marvel Studios has plans to make Carol Danvers the star of the Captain Marvel movie, Melissa Rosenberg and the Jessica Jones creative team subbed in Patsy “Trish” Walker to be Jessica’s closest friend on the show.

While Jessica and Patsy haven’t really met in the Marvel Universe, that’s going to change very soon. Announced at C2E2 (via Comic Book Resources), Jessica Jones is slated to appear in Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! # 7, which kicks off a new storyline in Kate Leth and artist Brittney Williams’ ongoing all-ages comic book series.

“Bringing Jessica in is definitely inspired by the friendship between her and Trish on the Netflix show, which I thought was the best part of the series,” said Leth while being interviewed by CBR. “Obviously our comic is very different tonally from the show (as it’s all-ages) but you can expect a nod or two to the other universe. And yes, in the comic, Patsy was briefly an investigator while Jess is one professionally, so expect their interactions to be pretty intense… Especially as Jess has been assigned to track Patsy!”

According to Leth, the storyline is called “Best Frenemies,” and it will resolve Patsy’s attempts to win back her own likeness and comics from her rival, Hedy Wolfe. On the Jessica Jones series, Patsy (Trish) and Jessica were step-sisters and extremely close. Obviously, the comic can’t recreate that dynamic without a big retcon, but it could be the start of a Jessica and Patsy friendship that didn’t exist beforehand.

Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! # 7 will be released in June.
