Marvel’s DARTH VADER Comic Will End in August

As part of Marvel’s Star Wars comics relaunch, the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader was given his first ongoing series by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca. For nearly two years, the Darth Vader comic has chronicled Vader’s quest to regain the power and status that he lost with the destruction of the first Death Star. And now that story is heading to a conclusion.

IGN broke the story that Star Wars: Darth Vader will end with issue # 25, which will be released in August. As part of that announcement, the cover for issue # 25 was revealed and it seems to imply that the second Death Star from Return of the Jedi will play a part in the final issue.

“We’ve always said all the way through, from Darth Vader #1, that this was a story with a beginning, a middle and an end,” said Gillen during an interview with IGN. “And it was a situation where we were like, ‘Okay, it’s better to actually end this story in a way which we think is the most effective. We don’t want to pad it out extraneously.’ That was the kind of thing, we were like, ‘Oh yeah, this is the end of this particular story,’ in which case it’s a natural place for Vader to move on.”

Darth Vader # 25 will also be an oversized 40 page comic, which will wrap up the loose ends of the storyline and bring Vader closer to the time period of The Empire Strikes Back.
