Marvel’s ART OF ANT-MAN Reveals Other Costume Designs for Wasp

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Ant-Man mid-credits scene.

Marvel’s Ant-Man put the biggest smile on my face. From Paul Rudd’s awkward and lovable Scott Lang, to Michael Douglas’s gruff Hank Pym, to Evangeline Lilly’s tough and biting Hope van Dyne–I adored most of it. Yes, even the dog-sized ant that seems to freak most people out. But, like any film, Ant-Man had some problems. I found myself sorting through a much bigger than insect-sized pile of mixed feelings about Wasp. Without going on a winding journey through my internal monologue, I’ll fast forward and say the mid-credits sequence where Hank reveals the Wasp suit to Hope was rewarding. The suit is a prototype Hank was working on with Janet before she died, and in having Hank show it to Hope, Marvel is presenting a future where Wasp is part of their cinematic universe.

Though Wasp often wore a yellow and black ensemble in the comics, she was known for her regular costume changes. I like that aspect of her character–she was feminine and made no apologies for it. Since Janet’s profession as a fashion designer fueled some of her many outfit changes in the comics, I’m not sure that we’ll see similar switches with Hope. I’m guessing her costume will evolve over time, but it’s already different from what we saw the original Wasp wearing earlier in the film and concept art in Marvel’s Ant-Man: The Art of the Movie shows a few other costume possibilities for Wasp.

Though I’m not positive if these designs are for Janet’s or Hope’s Wasp, I think it’s the former. The colors and lines of the costume closely mirror the Ant-Man suit, but there are variations in cuts, wings, and helmets. The third design from the left is especially striking because of it’s more insect-like look, but I’m not sure how practical it would be.

Do you like any of these Wasp designs better than the costumes we saw in Ant-Man? Let me know in the comments.
