The promo looks cool ,and might be a decent show . As for Agent Coulson ,we all know the real truth . He is the only actor/character they (the producers ) could afford to hire for a series ,that would connect the movies to the show . The problem is unless you really payed attention to the “Life Model Decoy ” and buy it ,the show might not be viewed as legit by casual fans . Sure I love Agent Coulson ,and any excuse they use to bring him “back from the dead ” is fine with me ,but others won’t like it .
If it was a trick to motive The Avengers ,then I can’t wait till Nick Fury reveals the truth ,and The Avengers kick his butt ,now that would be an awesome episode .

  2. Bruce says:

well it is the MARVEL universe so I would point out a couple of things.

one think about the Watcher and the whole what if series the avengers series could be one big what if Phil Coulson didnt die in the Avengers movie. (I know weak but it could be) and the other would be the infinity Gauntlet I mean since THANOS was in the Easter egg at the end of the avengers the Gauntlet could bring him back.

  3. WiByrd says:

Coulson was tasked to seek out “events” that may or may not be supernatural. Such as his first contact with Stark and again in Thor. I think the statement “The Saga That Began in Marvel’s The Avengers”, denotes that search. This may be all the other things and people that were investigated. Annnd go….

  4. MonarchHench says:

Wouldn’t be shocked if Cobie Smulders cameos at some point as Maria Hill, especially since How I Met Your Mother is ending and she’s listed to appear in Captain America 2 and Avengers 2.

  5. Josh says:

“It’s a narrative rule that if someone dies off camera, they are likely to not have died at all. Whedon used that to good effect in his other movie last year “Cabin In The Woods”

@Jack – Nailed it my friend.

  6. Josh says:

I’m going to go ahead and say that Tony referring to himself on the phone earlier in the Avengers movie as a “Life Model Decoy” was a bit of foreshadowing and possibly an easter egg put in so that people who got it would put two and two together when Coulson “died”. It’s not exactly obvious but it makes sense. And it is perfectly possible given comics penchant for bringing people back from the dead…It is also quite possibly the only solution to Coulson being alive post Avengers.

  7. Bill says:

It says at the beginning of the promo, “The Saga That Began in Marvel’s The Avengers.” That seems to me to clearly indicate that this takes place post-Avengers. As a fan/viewer, I’m not interested in watching a show that is set exclusively in a timeframe preceding what has already been revealed. Also, it makes more sense for Disney/Marvel to move forward from The Avengers and use the show as a promotional tool for forthcoming cinematic offerings by laying groundwork for Phase 2. I could see a flashback here or there, but I will be less inclined to tune-in if this is about Coulson’s team pre-Chitauri invasion, because we will have already seen the pay-off. It just won’t seem to carry the same weight or have the same significance if it’s not about SHIELD moving forward, preparing for the next “thing.” [/$0.02]

  8. Matthew says:

Three words Life Model Decoy (mind you for the non-Marvel initiated this may be a bit like a JR “it was all a dream”) as for him not dying no it was not clear that this was the fact in the movie, it was stated that Fury elaborated (taking the cards out of the locker) but not outright lie. If he did lie that would probably have had a worse effect on team moral. We’ll just have to wait and see (some of the hardest things for us internet nerds to come to terms with).

  9. Jack says:

It’s a narrative rule that if someone dies off camera, they are likely to not have died at all. Whedon used that to good effect in his other movie last year “Cabin In The Woods”

  10. Alex says:

S.H.I.E.L.D. canon has always been loaded with cloning technology. I know the film franchise wants to stick to a world of semi-realism, but is it so “out there” to introduce it here?

  11. Kid D-Brock says:

Look…they will have their reason why Coulson is still alive when the show airs. He did die, he didn’t die, it doesn’t matter. What happened was they didn’t realize how popular that character was until he died in Avengers. This is what they do in comics all the time. Even if they definitely kill a character they can always come up with some excuse later on why he isn’t dead if they think bringing him back will make them money. They just make something up. Comic book characters don’t ever have to stay dead, so it is stupid to argue about.

  12. Getter says:

    Sorry, not Cole, Cason*

  13. Getter says:

Just google “Life Model Decoy”, Cole….

  14. Cole says:

It wasn’t obvious that he wasn’t killed. It was obvious Fury was using his death as a motivator by getting his cards and smearing his blood on them. It’s unclear if this is a pre or post avengers series, but yes. Marvel characters often survive getting stabbed in, through, around or about their chest. Their belief in his death has nothing to do with whether or not he stayed dead.

  15. Kimberly Noseworthy says:

I think this series is supposed to be PRE-Avengers. That means anything Agent Coulson is involved in for this series happens before the events leading up to the Avengers movie.

  16. Endrick says:

Actually there was a hint earlier in the movie… Tony makes a joke about a Life Model Decoy… Coulson knowing he was out gunned could have used an LMD to confront Loki.

  17. BWitchee says:

He never died. Nick Fury lied to get the Avengers to work together. I thought it was super obvious in the movie. But apparently not?

  18. Cason says:

“Or he could be saying that the series seems to be set post-avengers, and Coulson is till a character. And thus can’t have died.”

Uh……….. He did die… That was the whole motivation for Tony and the rest of the Avengers to go after Loki. Did the whole speech that Tony gave just slip your mind?

Yes… Fury could’ve lied. But you know, everyone can survive a spear through the back that comes out of your chest.

  19. PoddSocks says:

i think Nick Fury lied to the avengers to get them to avenge coulson even though #coulsonlives

  20. Cole says:

Or he could be saying that the series seems to be set post-avengers, and Coulson is till a character. And thus can’t have died.

  21. Cason says:

Uh.. Coulson died when Loki stabbed him in the chest…

(obviously, people will want to know what happened to him post-Avengers)

i would assume he was buried and then thats about it….

as my friend Megan would say: “ZOMBIE AVENGERS!”
