Marvel Wants Fans to VOTE LOKI in 2016

After years of villainy and a short semi-heroic stint as an Agent of Asgard, Loki is embracing his destiny—to become the next President of the United States of America. This June, Marvel is launching Vote Loki, a new miniseries in which the Norse God of Lies jumps into the most disgusting cesspool of them all: American politics!

Marvel teased this announcement last month when it began sending out Vote Loki campaign logos, though the company still hasn’t revealed who will make up the creative team. But the primary image of presidential candidate Loki (posted above) was drawn by Tradd Moore. Artists Valerio Schiti and Israel Silva created the second Vote Loki cover, which depicts him as he delivers a stump speech.

Vote Loki will probably be a comedic standalone miniseries with no relation to the rest of the Marvel Universe. (Because otherwise Marvel would have to justify Angela’s decision to leave Hel and serve as her adopted brother’s secret service style bodyguard.) Plus, Loki’s status as an American citizen could prove pretty problematic to his campaign: any attack ads that say Loki was born in Jotunheim would be completely accurate. On the other hand, it should be very amusing to see Loki use trickery and sorcery against the other political candidates.

Marvel previously launched a mock presidential campaign for Howard the Duck in 1976, and other characters—including Captain America—have flirted with the idea of a presidential run. But DC Comic’s Lex Luthor actually won the presidency in that fictional universe back in 2000. Can Loki match that achievement, even in a comedic series?

Marvel’s June solicitations will be released later this month, which means the creative team for Vote Loki will probably be revealed soon.
