Marvel to Partner with Telltale Games in 2017

In a match made in shared property/shared universe heaven, Marvel Entertainment has announced that it will be teaming up with Telltale Games for an upcoming video game series, set to release in 2017. There wasn’t much else discussed outside of the partnership itself, but Marvel did make a few comments in regards to what to expect from their future video games, promising that the games will feel “exquisite,” “well-built,” “sexy,” and “hand-crafted.”

This news is every bit as astonishing as it is wonderful. Marvel has been very selective about who they partner with since settling in under the Disney umbrella. On the other side of the coin, however, Telltale Games’ has been known for working with other folks’ properties and adapting them to their unique point-and-click storytelling gameplay style (Borderlands, MineCraft, Game of Thrones). Telltale is no stranger to the comic book realm either, as their most critically acclaimed franchises, The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, are set in the comics’ universes and actually feature characters straight from the pages.

Wll this game tie-in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will this just be a separate story that has nothing to do with anything on the big (or small) screen? Will this heal the wounds of us never getting another Marvel vs. Capcom game? So many questions, so little time– typical Telltale problem.

What do you think of this new partnership? Will Telltale Games’ pedigree for amazing storytelling help expand the Marvel universe? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
