Marvel Supercut Takes Us Down the Road to CIVIL WAR

While one cinematic battle of heroic titans rages this weekend in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, another is right around the corner, and has eight years of baggage behind it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe began with 2008’s Iron Man and since then we’ve been delighted at the ups and downs of dozens of heroes all sharing the same movie landscape, and even has some television appearances in there too. Now, a new extra-long supercut shows us that Captain America: Civil War isn’t just the third Captain America movie – it’s the culmination of everything we’ve seen up to this point.

The video, put out by MCU Exchange, is a really powerful look at the central relationship and conflict in Civil War, that being the often diametrically opposed ideals of Steve Rogers and Tony “Iron Man” Stark. They’ve been allies, they might even have been friends, but they very rarely saw eye to eye, now more than ever. Using footage from the trailers for Cap 3 as well as footage from Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as TV shows Marvel’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Jessica Jones, the supercut illustrates that there’s more at stake in the world than just Tony versus Steve – it’s order versus chaos, and fear versus safety. (Sort of makes sense not to include Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man, doesn’t it?)

It all makes complete sense. From the beginning, Tony’s been about trying to preempt the evil when possible, which actually falls in line with what Nick Fury wanted in The Winter Soldier, while Steve has always been a man to react to evil as it exists, while hoping for a world that doesn’t. Two very different views of the world.

Whether you enjoyed Batman v Superman or not, I think we can all agree that there’s certainly way more history onscreen between Captain America and Iron Man, and seeing the two pillars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe square off is really going to take a toll on fans.

Captain America: Civil War, starring everybody, will be in theaters Thursday May 5. Are you picking a side or standing neutral? Let us know in the comments below!
