Marvel’s RUNAWAYS Cast Announced, and More TV News

Let’s end this week with some exciting entertainment news: Marvel and Hulu have announced the cast for Runaways, and I dare say it’s rather terrific. Learn who’s playing who in today’s TV-Cap, and stick around for a trailer for The Walking Dead midseason premiere, a little update on Black Lightning, and more TV news.

Yes! Marvel’s Runaways will begin production on February 13, and we now know the cast who will be portraying the teens introduced in the comics by writer Brian K. Vaughn and artist Adrian Alphona. Here’s who we have: Rhenzy Feliz is Alex Wilder, Lyrica Okano is Nico Minoru, Virginia Gardner is Karolina Dean, Ariela Barer is Gert Yorkes, Gregg Sulkin is Chase Stein, Allegra Acosta is Molly Hernandez. I am On. Board. See side by side pictures of the actors and characters here at Nerdist.

Art with Me. Twin Peaks is on the schedule for May 21, but how to occupy yourselves until then? I dunno, maybe create and submit some fan art to a new official Twin Peaks Tumblr. Showtime shared the URL on Thursday, and I bet it’s only a matter of time before fan-made images start appearing.

Sharks Don’t Give Up. If you’re a fan of Syfy’s Sharknado series, pay attention. Sharknado 5 is coming and it’s going international. Because of course it is. Get more information at Slashfilm.

And Ordered. Hey, Fox has picked up another pilot. This one is a comedy from Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Amy’s Brother centers on an outside-the-box kind of family made up of “a successful type-A man and his estranged sister, plus her two children.” [Variety]

They Rebel…Hopefully? February 12 marks the return of season seven of AMC’s The Walking Dead. A new trailer and behind-the-scenes look at the midseason premiere shows an emphasis on resisting. It’s bleak, sure, but I like the message of hope. [CBR]

A Move? Deadline reports Greg Berlanti’s Black Lightning, which was in development with Fox (they didn’t grab the pilot), is looking to call the The CW home. It makes sense. Berlanti has other comic book series there; the network is basically the hub for the genre. Get further information at Deadline.

The Expanse and Science. Syfy’s The Expanse is lauded by fans for myriad reasons, and Kyle H. says one of them is the show’s devotion to proper science. He explains how they get it right and the role science plays in the series here at Nerdist.

Best Mash-Up. Okay, this isn’t exactly TV news, but this video is so amusing I have to share it. Funny or Die has put together a Westworld and City Slickers mash-up. Oh, Billy Crystal, I adore you. I used to watch City Slickers on repeat back in the day, so this parody with Mitch and Phil about made me fall out of my chair laughing. I hope it brightens your Friday. [TVLine]

Changes. No one’s pretending there aren’t creative liberties being taken with the new Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale. But what should we expect from the edgier versions of the characters appearing in The CW drama? Sydney talked to executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa about the topic; read the interview here at Nerdist.

Making It Weird. Thursday night on The CW is all about small towns and weird vibes. No, really. Read recaps for the latest episodes of Supernatural and Riverdale and see what I mean.
