Marvel Relaunches CAPTAIN MARVEL with YA Author Margaret Stohl

The outcome of Civil War II has yet to be determined, but Captain Marvel looks like she’s going to be one of the biggest winners coming into the Marvel NOW! initiative next year. To celebrate the occasion, the comics behemoth has lined up an A-list creative team to chronicle the new adventures of its flagship heroine.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has revealed that best-selling YA novelist Margaret Stohl will be writing the brand new, ongoing Captain Marvel series alongside artist Ramon Rosanas. According to Stohl, Carol Danvers’ heroic alter ego will come out of Civil War II as one of the most famous superheroes in the world. But if the first cover is any indication, that may not be a good thing!

“She will be one of the most popular heroes on the planet—but that’s not something she is very comfortable with,” explained Stohl while speaking with THR. “And of course she’s lost a lot of folks that she’s loved so she has to cope with that, too. That being said, she still has a job to do as commander of the Alpha Flight. Her latest mission being recruiting and training new cadets (which will give us some fun supporting cast members). It’ll also bring with it a mysterious danger that will threaten everything Carol has built.”

Stohl is best known for writing the Beautiful Creatures novel series, and she even wrote a Black Widow YA novel last year that was well received. But Captain Marvel will be her biggest splash into comics to date.

Captain Marvel #1 will be released in early 2017.
