MARVEL ONE-SHOTS Possibly Returning on Digital Platforms

If it wasn’t for Marvel One-Shots, we may not have been blessed with an Agent Carter TV series. They also helped flesh out the character of Phil Coulson, transforming him from a mere S.H.I.E.L.D. agent into one of Marvel’s most popular characters. For the majority of phases one and two of the MCU, Marvel would release these One-Shots as short films to help either tie movies together or give more story to some of our favorite supporting characters, like Ben Kingsley’s “Mandarin.”

Now it looks like the One-Shots could be making a comeback, just in another format. In a recent interview with Forbes, Civil War directors the Russo brothers talked about the possibilities of digital content as they prepare to film the epic Avengers: Infinity War. From Anthony Russo:

“We have gone through a little bit of a transition with that content, we can’t go into too many details about this but we are thinking, very specifically, about new ways of what you are talking about with Avengers: Infinity War. We’re just in the beginning phases of figuring them out. Yes, DVDs are gone but there is this wonderful internet platform out there called YouTube.

“We’re also talking to Facebook and Twitter and Instagram about ways to feed ancillary content to them and to viewers because it’ll go viral there and you can reach millions of people. The platform is changing but it is a lot easier to sit on your couch and Apple TV pops up rather than you having to get up and find a DVD, so it is what it is, and there are always new and different ways to reach the audience.”

When you look at how content distribution has changed over the years, even since the One-Shots debuted in 2011, this move makes perfect sense. Everybody is on YouTube, everyone is on their phones. While there are NEVER enough cat videos, why not throw in some awesome Marvel content to change the pace a bit? I am looking forward to the possibilities Marvel wants to bring their fans.

So what do you think? Are you excited for a return of the Marvel One-Shots? Besides Luis from Ant-Man (c’mon, this one is an automatic HOME RUN), who would you like to see star in one? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
