Marvel Studios has been absolutely killing it the past decade, and nowhere was that more apparent than at San Diego Comic-Con, which featured four upcoming MCU films. Also, in honor of National Intern Day, Intern Ben (who is me)! We couldn’t be more excited for Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther, and the only way Nerdist knows how to be excited is to talk about it on the internet!
The Thor movies haven’t necessarily been the most beloved in Marvel’s pantheon, but Thor: Ragnarok is looking to change that. Released at Comic-Con, the new trailer highlights the film’s hilarious dialogue, beautiful visuals, and incredible Hulk. Director Taika Waititi is known for his expert blend of comedy and drama, and he seems to be the perfect man to elevate Thor to the levels of Marvel icons like Iron Man and Captain America. We’re confident Thor will get a film adaptation worthy of the God of Thunder.
The next year will see 3 out of 4 Marvel films embracing the cosmic Marvel Universe, with the exception of Black Panther, and the culmination of both cosmic and terrestrial Marvel will be Avengers: Infinity War. Infinity War will feature basically every character we’ve seen so far fighting to stop Thanos and his Black Order from taking over the galaxy. With earthbound heroes like Spider-Man fighting alongisde galactic powerhouses like Gamora, who better than Thor to bridge the gap between Earth and the wider universe? With Ragnarok acting as a direct lead-in to Infinity War, Thor is in the perfect position to unite the forces of good.

The last cosmic film, Captain Marvel, will take place before Infinity War despite coming out after it. Brie Larson’s Marvel debut is set to take place in the 1990s, featuring Nick Fury with both eyes and a new villain in the Skrulls, the shapeshifting aliens who have plagued the comics universe for decades. While not much more is known about the film, Marvel might be building up to a future Secret Invasion, a story arc that saw many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes secretly replaced by Skrulls. Though Brie won’t be appearing in Infinity War, Captain Marvel‘s concept art looks positively Bad. Ass.

Falling from atmosphere back to Earth, Black Panther will release early next year, taking the MCU in a new direction. The film will portray Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa as he fights to keep his newly acquired throne, with both political intrigue and spy-movie-like action. It sounds like Marvel’s Game of Thrones/James Bond, and what could be better? Black Panther is also the first hero of color to lead an MCU film, a welcome trend we’re hoping Marvel continues to follow in the years to come.
