Marvel Characters to Appear in SPIDER-MAN Solo Movie

Superhero fans jumped for joy when news hit last year that Spider-Man would finally be able to join his fellow heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. But while the deal with Sony — who owns the movie rights to Spidey — allows for Peter Parker to appear in MCU films, the question remained: Does that mean Marvel characters can show up in Spider-Man’s standalone movie coming out next year?

The folks at Entertainment Weekly asked Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige that very question recently, and it seems the answer is “yes.” According to Feige, “He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth.” So while that doesn’t mean that Spider-Man — now played by newcomer Tom Holland — is going to be co-headlining a movie with a Marvel Studios character, it seems that they can at least put in an appearance.

So which Marvel Studios character might be showing up in Spider-Man’s movie? I supposed we’ll have to see how the whole Civil War thing shakes out of course, but I’d guess the obvious choice would be Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. One could imagine that Stark sees young genius Peter Parker as his own mini-me, minus the billions of dollars and adoring ladies, of course. Also, Spider-Man bouncing around and annoying the hell out the Hulk is also a comic book staple that fans would love to see.

When asked which Marvel characters could join Spidey in his own movie, Civil War co-director Joe Russo said “Let’s just say … Great Lakes Avengers.” (The GLA is famously lame).  Yeah, I know he’s joking, but I would watch the hell out of a “Spidey Meets the Great Lakes Avengers” movie any old day. I’m just sayin’.

Spider-Man’s new movie is set to open on July 7, 2017.

Which MCU characters do you want to see turn up in Spidey’s next movie? Let us know in the comments.–
