On the eve of Comic-Con, Marvel made sure that no one else was going drop the good stuff ahead of their Saturday panel (moderated by the Nerdist himself, Chris Hardwick) and released two major bombshells for both their present and future endeavors last night.
The first was this tweet sent out yesterday afternoon revealing something very interesting about the future of the MCU:
Mark your calendars! #Marvel Studios adds a 3rd date to 2018 with a new film on May 4! pic.twitter.com/HOota9nbNq
â Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) July 23, 2014
There have been rumors for a while now that Marvel was going to start expanding and releasing more than two films a year, given their box office success. Considering the rumors they want enter into a model that would see one sequel and one new property launch per year, our best guess (given the May 4th date) is that the third film exists so the company can still do that while keeping Avengers 3 in play in the same year. So â in theory â things could go sequel-Avengers 3-new property.
In addition to the announcement of a new phase three (or maybe even phase four) film, the company also unveiled – via Entertainment Weekly – their first official concept-art poster for the upcoming Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd. Check it out:
A little old school, a little new school, all awesome. With the film officially a year away, this yearâs convention will really be Marvelâs first chance to get ahead of all the ups-and-downs theyâve had in the press lately and sell people on this movie, which is finally on track for principle photography.
What do you think of the new poster? What film do you think is coming out in 2018? Let us know in the comments below!
I’d love to see an 80’s era Magneto movie.. but Dr. Strange will be the new one (as Jesse mentioned).
Go talk to Fox about this one; Marvel doesn’t own the rights to anything X-Men related.

New property = Doctor Strange. Obviously.
Yikes. That Ant-Man poster just screams “unfocused production.” That is a massive bummer.
Hmmm, how so? Doesn’t seem very unfocused to me, but hey to each their own.
I think it looks awesome. In fact, I was not at all interested in this movie until I saw this poster.
Is that a wasp he’s riding? Heh. Heh.
I see what you did there…
