Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger are Making a 1970s Rock ‘N’ Roll Show for HBO

It’s about to get real funky and psychedelic over at HBO, as the network has given the green light to an as-yet-untitled hourlong drama series about a record label executive just trying to get by in the increasingly changing world of the 1970s music scene. Oh yeah, and it’s going to be executive produced by Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones and Martin Scorsese!

Set in the 1970s, the show will look at the drug- and sex-fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out” while also, it seems, tie in some no-good dirty deeds and business. And the pedigree of those involved in the whole shebang is nothing to balk at.

Slated to tape in New York City, the series will tell the story of Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) and his American Century Records will feature tons of music and all the drama that goes on behind the scenes of that particular industry as it struggles to find the “next new sound.”

Alongside Cannavale will be Olivia Wilde (set to play his wife, Devon Finestra), a boho former model/actress type who’s very likely going to get herself into some trouble. Ray Romano will portray one of Richie’s business partners and Head of Promotions.

And that’s not even the half of it. Also lined up to star are Andrew “Dice” Clay (Frank “Buck” Rogers, a radio station owner), Max Casella (Julius “Julie” Silver, head of A&R), James Jagger (Kip Stevens, lead singer of the band Nasty Bits), Ato Essandoh, Jack Quaid, Birgitte Sorenson, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Bo Dietl, Armen Garo, Robert Funaro, and Joe Caniano. And yes, before you ask: James Jagger is Mick’s son and Jack Quaid is Dennis Quaid’s boy.

The show—bridging the worlds of underground New York crime (Scorsese’s FAVORITE) with the burgeoning music scenes of New York—though nameless, already has a full season order, so stay tuned for more updates.

What do you think of the series? Sound promising? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
