Mark Millar Reveals His First Netflix Comic, THE MAGIC ORDER

Last summer, comic book writer Mark Millar closed a deal that brought his creator-owned Millarworld titles to Netflix. Now, Millar has unveiled an early peak at his first Netflix-owned comic book series, The Magic Order, which will be drawn by Olivier Coipel, an artist best known for his runs on Thor, Avengers, and House of M.

Via ComicBook.com, Millar made the announcement at Entertainment Weekly, where he also offered up a few additional details about The Magic Order. According to Millar, the book will be a fantasy that features elements of a mob drama. The series follows five families of magicians who have spent hundreds of years defending the world against otherworldly threats until a new enemy begins killing them off one at a time.

Millar explained to EW that the premise centers on “five families across the world who take care of things whenever they’re needed,” and went on to describe the project as “R-rated adult fantasy.”

Even before Millar joined Netflix, his Millarworld titles had a good track record of getting optioned long before they were finished. Given Netflix’s new status as the owners of Millarworld, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if a live-action adaptation of The Magic Order is already in development. The comic book will only run for six issues, but this seems like an idea that could easily become an original series on Netflix. The Magic Order #1 will be released in Spring 2018.
