Mark Hamill Explains Why a Young Luke Skywalker Film Would Be a Terrible Idea

Since Lucasfilm’s next standalone Star Wars film will tell the tale of a young Han Solo, we’ve got to wonder: What about a young Luke Skywalker movie? This may sound exciting to us, but the concept has one major detractor: Mark Hamill.

“Boy what a boring film that will be,” Hamill said on last night’s The Late Late Show With James Corden. Uh, are you trying to tell us water farming isn’t exciting?

Hamill quickly–and rightfully–shot down the idea for a Luke prequel, since, you know, A New Hope already is a young Luke Skywalker movie. Although, his evasiveness about who Luke might have lost his virginity to has us at least slightly intrigued about exploring his pre-R2-D2 life. Picture it, a young and restless Luke stays out too late one night, where he comes across a beautiful young Tusken Raider. What? At least that’s less disturbing then watching him hit on his sister for two movies.

Speaking of family matters, Corden asked Hamill about how often he hears the phrase “I am your father” from fans. Because we’re all super lame, it’s a lot, but since Hamill says he likes to “give the people what they want,” Corden had him and fellow guests Anna Faris and Jenny Slate play the new, brilliantly named game “I Am Your Father,” where they had to determine which father-child pairing was really related.

That was too easy, especially after the first guy ruined his great “mint chip” ice cream answer by giving away that he came up with it like Kevin Spacey’s Kint in The Usual Suspects. We don’t need a Luke Skywalker prequel, but can we see this game played with competent “fathers?”

Would you want to see a young Luke movie? Tell us why in the comments below.
