There’s no better time to pop the question than after a Viking raid. On the latest episode of Man at Arms: Reforged, a YouTube series that recreates famous and infamous weapons from movies and TV, host Matt Stagmer set out to prove just that by building the axe wielded by Travis Fimmel‘s Ragnar Lothbrok on Vikings, all in the name of a wedding proposal.
Stagmer and his team of blacksmiths and woodworkers use a variety of tools and methods to create Ragnar’s weapon of choice from scratch. Outside of a couple of sanders and a power hammer, it looks as if the equipment they use to make the weapon isn’t much different from what a blacksmith would have used to forge instruments of destruction for Norse warriors back in the 9th century.
However, the real fun comes when the axe is complete and Stagmer has his girlfriend Natasha Vineyard demonstrate how to use it. A huge Vikings fan herself, Natasha constructs her own shield maiden costume for the event. She gets bonus points for including her own recreation of Lagertha’s (Katheryn Winnick) shield, proving her allegiance to the queen of Kattegat.
In the demo, Natasha cuts through a pineapple, a melon, and even a two-liter bottle of soda with ease. Still, even with all of her shield maiden might, she is clearly caught off guard when Stagmer drops to one knee to pop the question at the 20-minute mark in the video. Thankfully she says yes to his proposal, rather than lopping off his head with the axe. Anyone who can find love over a shared appreciation of centuries-old weaponry and cosplay is bound go the distance.
Now they just need to visit the seer to make sure their love isn’t doomed. To the happy couple, skol! Which movie or TV weaponry would you like to see Man at Arms: Reforged recreate? Sound off in the comments below!
