Maisie Williams Cosplayed as Coraline, So Coraline Cosplayed as Arya Stark

Update, 1/16/18:

Maisie Williams’ Coraline cosplay was so delightful that LAIKA decided to reward her efforts. They were grateful and created custom art of Coraline cosplaying as Arya Stark, which you can see in the above photo. Please note that Arya/Coraline’s direwolf, Nymeria, has button eyes. Make sure to flip through all the photos to see Coraline on the Iron Throne and also in the Hall of Faces.

Original post:

Awards shows are an opportunity for celebrities to dress up, see peers, and receive accolades. But Maisie Williams skipped all of that by not attending the Golden Globes on Sunday in favor of something way cooler: she dressed like Coraline Jones. The character introduced in Neil Gaiman‘s novella Coraline was brought to life in the 2009 stop-motion film of the same name directed and written by Henry Selick. In the movie, Coraline has an instantly recognizable look with blue hair and a yellow rain coat, and via Hello Giggles, we can see Williams captured it perfectly with her costume. Oliver Jackson takes on the role of Coraline’s BFF, Wyborne “Wybie” Lovat, in the image.

It’s ridiculously cute. And hey, the raincoat and wig are probably way more comfortable than a swanky evening gown and heels. I hope Williams has Coraline’s bright yellow rain boots to complete the look.

Focus Features and LAIKA’s stop-motion adaptation of Coraline is a lovely piece of work, but I’m just saying, a live action take on Gaiman’s story could work. And Williams does point out that Coraline, a sassy and curious young girl, is her idol. It could happen.

Which fictional character penned by Neil Gaiman should Williams dress up as next? My money’s on Death from Sandman. Share your picks in the comments.
