Mads Mikkelsen Reveals His ROGUE ONE Character

Every top secret film usually has one actor that’s a bit of an unpredictable wild card as far as press. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has Robert Downey, Jr. The Star Wars saga has Carrie Fisher. And maybe, just maybe, Mads Mikkelsen is going to take that role for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The actor was interviewed on Sky News on Thursday and after saying he couldn’t give anything away, he revealed his character in the film is Jyn Erso’s father.

What.

Mikkelsen discusses a bit of hesitation about taking the gig in the Star Wars universe. He said he was a little scared–he wasn’t sure if he’d be wearing a stormtrooper outfit. But he says, “I read the script. It was very beautiful and Felicity’s playing this lovely, strong woman [and] I play her father.” I gasped audibly just like the interviewer.

Now, what else do we know about Mikkelsen’s character? Back in August, he told the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet that his character was a hero in the film with a “very important role.” In September, he attended a convention and signed a Star Wars poster with the name “Galen” (other Star Wars actors who signed the poster put their characters’ names underneath their signatures). So, could Galen be Jyn’s father?

It’s a little detail, to be sure, but it opens the door to speculation and isn’t speculation fun?

What do you think of this development? Do you think Mikkelsen’s character’s lack of parenting skills are what help push Jyn to rebel? If he’s a hero as well, maybe his character and Jyn have a relationship like Cham and Hera Syndulla in Star Wars Rebels?
