MAD MAX: FURY ROAD-Inspired Flame-Throwing Ukulele

If you are like the rest of us here at Nerdist, you’ve seen and loved Mad Max: Fury Road (You can read Dan Casey’s review here). The next logical step is to do your best to enter that world, minus all the death, danger, lack of water and oil, etc.

Caleb Kraft, the community editor at Make:, decided to do just that. Most of us can agree that out of all the cool things we got to see in Fury Road, the most pleasant of surprises came the first time the Doof Warrior appeared on the screen.

As if the craziness wasn’t already at an all-time high, seeing someone strapped to a tower of speakers speeding down the Fury Road at top speed playing metal music while his guitar also acts as a flamethrower sealed the deal for me as “greatest thing ever.”

Caleb decided to go the safe route, converting a ukulele into a mini version of Doof Warrior’s instrument of choice. The video above shows step-by-step instructions on how to create your own version of Immortan Joe’s favorite guitarist. Using products you can get from Home Depot, Caleb shows how to create the flamethrower safely without doing any damage to the ukulele itself. My only concern was his warning that you may have to blow out the flame manually after you are done using it. Then again, I don’t recall the last time I lit something on fire, got bored, and just set it down and walked away. [Editor’s Note: We heartily recommend you NOT casually set down things that are on fire.]

You can check out more from Make: on its YouTube channel here.

So what do you think? Are you on your way to Home Depot right now? Are you sending out invitations for your Fury Road themed Luau? Do you think Immortan Joe pirates Doof Warrior’s albums? Let me know on Twitter or in the comments below.
