Mac DeMarco Survives Farts And Chops On The Eric Andre Show

Jangle-pop rocker and artsy filmmaker Mac DeMarco is no stranger to shenanigans. Just two weeks ago, the Salad Days singer was detained by campus police after climbing the ceiling beams at an otherwise mellow concert at UCSB. So it comes as no surprise that DeMarco was the latest musician to participate with good spirit in comedian Eric Andre’s increasingly torturous guest performance spot on Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show.

The segment begins peacefully enough, with DeMarco and his normcore bandmates grooving to “Still Together”, the gentle, closing track of his second solo album, 2. DeMarco only gets through the first lyric before host Eric Andre interrupts from his desk with, “Now it’s time for Attack DeMarco!” Suddenly, the stage is overrun by screaming, bo-wielding ninjas, resolute on utter destruction. The screen is overwhelmed by Japanese game show-style graphics, and the soundtrack is dominated by sirens and microphone feedback, as DeMarco and his band do their best to ignore the distractions and continue performing.

Their efforts are in vain, though, as the ninjas quickly trash the stage, restrain DeMarco and tie him to a chair, before (and this is where things take a truly surreal turn) bring out a naked man bent over a rolling saddle, and press his rear-end directly into DeMarco’s resisting face. Now that’s commitment to a bit. Meanwhile, Andre and comedian Hannibal Buress watch from their seats, devoid of any emotional reaction beyond maybe boredom. Watch the hilarious video clip below.

Previously, big-boned rappers Killer Mike and Action Bronson visited The Eric Andrew Show to engage in a rap battle on treadmills.
