In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the only thing more sought after than the location of Luke Skywalker was the lightsaber that he and his father once owned…before Darth Vader infamously removed Lukeâs hand in The Empire Strikes Back. But in the real world, another Empire artifact is about to become available…if youâre extremely wealthy.
Nate D. Sanders Fine Autographs & Memorabilia has put up Luke Skywalkerâs DL-44 blaster from The Empire Strikes Back in a new auction that starts the bidding at $200,000. That seems pretty high considering that the iconic metal bikini worn by Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi sold for $96,000 last year. As of press time, there are currently no bids for Lukeâs blaster.
According to the auctionâs description, âthis iconic hero gun is the same model used by Han Solo, a design based on the German issue Mauser C96 pistol and custom made by casting the original prop used in the first Star Wars.â The listing also traces the origins of the blaster to a âlighter model used in the movie for non-firing scenesâ that Hamill gifted to its original owner during an episode of Jimâll Fix It, a childrenâs television show on BBC.
To further entice potential buyers, the auction listing notes that the gun has never been fired, and it still has âits original flash suppressor and scope.â Itâs also entirely made of fiberglass.
The auction for Luke’s blaster will run until Thursday, January 28 and you can follow the results at this link. But casual Star Wars fans are probably better off buying an official replica of Lukeâs blaster, if you can still find one!
