Lucas Till Returns as Havok in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

The list of mutants being added to Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse continues to grow, although this time it’s a familiar face that is returning to the fold; it was announced, via the director’s Instagram account, that actor Lucas Till is returning once again as Alex Summers, better known as Havok, a part that he originally played in X-Men: First Class and would reprise for a cameo in last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This appearance should be particularly interesting to longtime X-Men fans, as it will finally explain what the familial relationship is in the movies between Alex Summers and his comic book brother Scott Summers, a/k/a Cyclops, now played by Tye Sheridan. In the classic Marvel stories, Havok is the younger brother of Cyclops, although they were separated during childhood when their parents presumably died (they didn’t actually die but were abducted by aliens. I have a strong suspicion the movies will not go this route.)

Considering that X-Men: Apocalypse is set in 1983, and Cyclops is looking to be about sixteen years old in this movie, the sibling relationship from the comics isn’t going to work the same way. It’s possible that Havok is the older brother (maybe half-brother?) in this universe, and the two grew up unaware of each other. Or it’s possible that Havok is Scott’s father in this timeline. One thing’s for sure: they’re gonna need to age up the baby faced Lucas Till if they want audiences to believe that he’s pushing 40 now.

Lucas Till joins a fairly huge cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Ben Hardy (Angel), Lana Condor (Jubillee) and Olivia Munn (Psylocke). Also rumored to be making appearances will be Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Ian Mckellan as an older Magneto. X-Men: Apocalypse is due to hit theaters next May.
