Listen to an Epic LOST IN SPACE Track, “Danger Will Robinson” (Exclusive)

The Robinson family will soon set forth on another unexpected voyage through the cosmos thanks to Netflix‘s upcoming re-imagining of the iconic sci-fi series Lost in Space. It will have a lot to live up to since the original is so beloved, and that includes its score, since none other than John Williams himself wrote the classic original main theme. But based on this new song from its soundtrack, the show’s music will be one thing both the Robinson family and fans won’t have to worry about.

“Danger Will Robinson,” a title inspired by the show’s most famous line, was written by the show’s composer Christopher Lennertz (Medal Of Honor, Marvel’s Agent Carter). The song plays during a climactic moment, and it has an epic, sweeping opening, the type of music you’d want to hear as you looked across a strange new wondrous planet in awe. But then it turns sinister, a harbinger of danger to come, before settling into a song worthy of a great hero facing that threat.

Lennertz said he wanted his soundtrack to “be grand and heroic, with a nod to exploration, and a hint of nostalgia” so “it resonates with fans of the show, both old and new.” Based on this track he accomplished that, but he said this particular number was especially challenging because of its name, its placement in the episode, and because he tried to pay homage to John Williams’ original series title track.

“Just the title of this one is daunting. It was the climax of the episode and needed to have all the tension it could as they tried to save Judy, while still keeping an element of fear about the robot. It also was my first opportunity to underscore such a classic line in popular culture. After the rescue, I wanted to bring both my new theme and Williams’ original together in a way that really let the audience cheer for the Robinsons and set up the kind of real stakes family adventure ride show that Zack and the whole team had in store. I felt a lot of pressure on this one, considering that it was such a big moment and the first real showcase of incorporating the music of such a hero of mine. I hope I did it justice!”

Forget justice; this stands on its own merits.

The entire Lost In Space—Netflix Original Series Soundtrack will be available digitally from Lakeshore Records on April 13, the same day the series debuts on Netflix, with a CD release to follow at a later date.

So even though we have to wait a little bit longer to see if this reboot lives up to the original, it already sounds like it has.
