Looks Like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Will Write the CONSOLE WARS Film

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are set to write and direct the upcoming film adaptation of Blake Harris’ behind-the-scenes drama, Console Wars. Sony Pictures and Scott Rudin are now reportedly acquiring the necessary assets to develop the film.

Console Wars is an underdog story revisiting the past showdown between the Nintendo and the then up-and-coming Sega Corporation. Harris referenced hundreds of old interviews to recap the historical corporate showdown as accurately as possible. The gaming industry grew from this ferocious competition to become the top grossing entertainment medium in the world.

Surely we all remember the Sega/SNES generation, right? It was the generation that bred the extremist we’ve now come to know as console fanboys, a generation that brought us Sonic the Hedgehog in his glory days before he decided it was too mainstream to be a console mascot. Damn it Sonic… All those years I stood up for you.

Which team were you on back during this time? #TeamSNES or #TeamGenesis? Let us know in the comments.

I had both but I enjoyed the games I owned for the SNES a lot more.

I had the SNES as well but I have been looking forward to reading this book and I’m really surprised it has been optioned before it has even been released. In the book I think Sega is the good guys and underdogs to Nintendo so I’m curious about this story. I never saw Sega as a tiny company even before the Mega Drive they had the Master System that came out around the same time as the NES and they had arcade games just like Nintendo. I know once Nintendo got big with the success of the NES they did try to strong arm third party developers into only making Nintendo games but I think what Nintendo did with the NES is much more of an impressive achievement than Sega Sega’s. NES came out right after the video game crash and they were not a huge company at that point they did have success with a few arcade games like Donkey Kong but the NES was a huge gamble and really because of their incredible games were able to create the console market. But I’m still interested in this story and can’t wait to see Rogen and Goldberg’s movie.

Definitely SNES. Super Mario World and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are probably the two best games I have ever played. Also the “peanut” controller was brilliant.
