Look at Superman’s Evolution Over 75 Years in This New Video

The other day, we shared a fan video highlighting the many incarnations of Batman throughout the character’s history in television and film, dating all the way back to 1939. Today, we have one for Superman, too! What were the odds that the two most iconic DC Comic superheroes would get their own retrospective video packages in the same week?

…Oh, yeah, that’s right. They were never higher. Not with that little movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and all. If you hadn’t heard, the film opens this weekend, which makes it the perfect time for a look at the characters’ transformation over the decades.

Just like its Batman-centric counterpart, the Supes-themed video was put together by Andy Schneider and Jonathan Britnell at Burger Fiction. The video starts with the first animated Superman in 1941 (Superman only initially appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938), followed by the first live action Superman in 1948 (played by Kirk Alyn), up to today’s Henry Cavill‘s iteration from Man of Steel and the new film. It has plenty of George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, probably the two actors most identified with the character.

What stands out most is how often Superman has been turned into a cartoon, and how little his look really changed until recently. Superman loves his tights. And punching people. Superman really loves punching people. Especially when they make him angry.

With so many Supermans (Supermen?) to choose from, which one is your favorite? What about your favorite Superman show or movie? We want to hear from you right here in our comments section.
