London’s Horizon is Calling in ASSASSIN’S CREED: SYNDICATE Trailer

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has ushered us through the Third Crusade, the Italian Renaissance, the Colonial era, and even the French Revolution. When I first learned that the latest entry in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, was set during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, it was hard for the history nerd in me to contain my excitement. Though we’ve gotten several glimpses of the game’s environment since its announcement back in May, on Tuesday Ubisoft released a detailed look at twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye’s parkour playground.

The new trailer features gorgeous scenery, a bustling city that is chock full of meandering NPC’s traversing the city and going about their daily business, and the series’ cloaked assassins perched on top of buildings, preparing to leap on their unsuspecting prey.

We didn’t get to see any combat in the video, but there are already so many impressive gameplay videos out in the wild that the “London Horizon Trailer” was a nice change of pace. Over the course of the series’ history, Ubisoft has gotten better at creating believable worlds, despite a few bumps and glitches along the way.

As the game’s October 23 launch date and the impending fall/holiday deluge of games inch ever closer, it’s time to start figuring out which games we will give priority to and play first. Both Metal Gear Solid V and Mad Max launched today, but there are other titles like Destiny’s massive fall expansion The Taken King, LEGO Dimensions, Super Mario Maker, and Halo 5: Guardians that will all be vying for your attention. Whether or not Assassin’s Creed Syndicate can outmaneuver its competition remains to be seen.
