It’s a Monday miracle! Here at the Nerdist offices, we all shed a single tear when we heard that Fox had passed on the excellent Locke & Key pilot based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s seriously rad horror comic. This was particularly upsetting considering it had been penned by Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo, Never Let Me Go).

In the wake of Fox’s decision to pass, rumors began swirling about the franchise’s fate, namely that Universal had its eyes on the series to turn it into a film trilogy penned by geeky screenwriting duo (and Locke & Key producers) Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Cries of joy could be heard throughout Keyhouse today when Orci confirmed via Twitter that the project would indeed be revived as a film trilogy. That’s right – a freakin’ trilogy. Are you excited? Quemment below and let us know!

Saw the pilot at NYCC last year (2011), and have been very surprised it was passed on, and/or hasn’t been snatched up somewhere.
Man, I gave quite the geek squee when I read this news. I was beyond pissed when I saw that awesome trailer and read that FOX had passed on the series. But this has renewed my happy!
Yes I am excited! Best comic series! Hopefully the trilogy will do the series justice.
I’ll get excited by this when the trailer shows up. For now, I’ll just enjoy the books.

I HAVE THE GOOSEFLESH! This is better than the last TWD episode. When can I expect this??!?!?! Where do I put my money?!??
Best news of the day!!!!
@John: It’s unclear as to what will happen right now. I’d like to think that they’ll keep the cast from the pilot, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Thats awesome! I love the Locke & Key series. I only wish that Fox would post the original pilot somewhere. I’ve been itching to see it for a while now.
SO what will happen to the pilot? will there be an entirely new cast?
