All the Changes in THE LION KING Live-Action Remake

“The circle of life” means something very different in Hollywood. In La La Land, that phrase refers to the amount of time it takes before a successful property gets remade. Audiences don’t always roar with excitement for them, but Disney can already feel the love for its latest live-action take on a classic animated film.

The first teaser for the studio’s all new The Lion King, released on Thanksgiving, racked up more views in its first 24 hours than every movie besides Infinity War. Reactions have been mixed. Some fans are wondering if we need a new version at all, while others are asking if a movie primarily made with CGI counts as live-action. And there are some who think the film looks too faithful to the original. Today’s Nerdist News with Jessica Chobot might have some concerned viewers saying hakuna matata instead, because we found some key differences that indicate this won’t just be a shot-for-shot CGI copy of the original.

Our favorite wise mandrill, Rafiki, has a much more real-world accurate look, and he’s also without some other items from the original, like his walking stick. Is it only a temporary omission, or a sign the movie will try to have the animals move realistically? What can we take away from the slightly altered Tanzania-inspired setting, which also looks to be matching its real-world counterpart more accurately? Will the live-action version mostly differentiate itself with realism?

Or does that rain-free roar at the end hint at a different ending altogether? We don’t know. Better watch the teaser a few (hundred million) more times.

What do you think of these changes? What do they mean for the film? Tell us in the comments below.
