Live Action FUTURAMA Fan Film Is Intriguing and Way Too Realistic

We have to give it up to the diehard fans of any movie, show, book, game, or comic. We love that there are people out there willing to devote part, if not all, of their free time to paying homage to the things that they adore. It’s an admirable quality in any regard however when things are done really well, our hats have to come off to them. It’s just that, in the case of this upcoming Futurama fan film, our hats might be covering our eyes for a bit since the realism really caught us off guard.

YouTube’s Cinema Relics may have substantially deepened the uncanny valley by creating real-life versions of the Planet Express crew. While it hurts our brains to see Fry, Leela, Bender, Hermes, The Professor, Amy, and Zoidberg not only in three dimensions but in the actual flesh, we absolutely cannot wait to see the finished product. It’s daunting just thinking about all the work put in to make it look as good (and real) as it does. We only hope there’s eventually a featurette about the props, special effects and—fingers crossed—character design. There’s no question that Cinema Relics are true fans, but to drive the point home, the disclaimer at the end of the video (a message that almost sounds penned by Philip J. Fry himself) proves they are serious Futurama devotees at heart.

“The makers of Fan-O-Rama would like to express our sincere gratitude to Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, 20th Century Fox and all of the talented individuals who worked to bring Futurama into our lives. We hope that our love letter is taken as it’s meant to be: as a sign of our deep appreciation and respect for all that you’ve done, and not as some creepy we’re-outside-your-window-at-3am stalkerish sort of way. Your creation serves as an inspiration to us all and will certainly remain one of the top five cartoons about a time-traveling delivery boy named Philip for decades to come.”

What are your thoughts on Fan-O-Rama? What other characters do you hope they have in store? Can anyone recommend a way to make sure 3D Zoidberg doesn’t haunt my dreams? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
