Literally Shocking Video Shows Life Under Power Lines Is Illuminating

Everyone knows that the number one way to gain those ever elusive super powers is to throw yourself into a vat of toxic waste, but doing that comes with terrible, obvious risks, such as bad scarring, having your hair color permanently changed, and a ruined set of clothes. Well, it turns out that maybe we’ve all been going about being superheroes the wrong way this whole time, and that instead of jumping into a slimy green bath we should just try standing under some high voltage power lines, trying to absorb their energy.

In this video from the YouTube account Kreosan, we get to see what happened when some young Russians did just that. Enough electricity is emitted from the power lines that they were able to hold fluorescent tube bulbs in the air and have them become illuminated wirelessly, as though they were standing in a field of untamed electric current. Don’t worry: they realized it was like turning on a lightsaber, just like you probably did.

They were even able to produce small amounts of electricity between them, and also from the grass. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable putting a light bulb in my mouth and having it turned on under any circumstances, but they went full-Uncle Fester. However, they couldn’t duplicate the results under all of the wires; just ones that were hanging a little lower.

We’ll keep an eye out for their next video, where they say they went back to collect the “induced energy” and used “a simple device that converts the induced currents in low voltage, sufficient” to charge–what else–a phone. Sadly, no-one will probably gain super powers this way (and in truth shouldn’t play under high power voltage lines, period), but now you know some people are out there trying.

What object would you have carried under those power lines to see if it turned on? Tell us in the comments below.
