Listen to Two of David Bowie’s Final Recorded Songs

Although he passed away at the start of the year, it seems as though we haven’t heard the last of David Bowie. Somebody close to Bowie said that there’s “a long list of unscheduled musical releases that Bowie planned before he died,” and we know about at least one of them: A cast album of Bowie’s Lazarus musical is set for come out on October 21, and while the first disc includes a cast recording of the musical’s songs, the second disc will feature Bowie’s recording of the title track (which previously was released on Blackstar), as well as Bowie’s renditions of “No Plan,” “Killing a Little Time,” and “When I Met You,” which were recorded with the same band he worked with on Blackstar.

Ahead of the album’s release, two of the songs, “When I Met You” and “No Plan,” debuted on BBC Radio 6 this morning. The former can be heard HERE at 51:20, and the latter can be heard HERE at 46:20. Both songs have the same sense of experimentalism Bowie exhibited on Blackstar; “When I Met You” could be favorably compared to jangly kaleidoscopic indie rock of Deerhunter, while “No Plan” is a bit darker and slinkier, like a shimmering Radiohead track.

“Killing a Little Time” has yet to pop up anywhere, but we won’t have to wait long to hear it regardless, since the cast album will be released in just a few days. Beyond that, we’ll be keeping an ear to the ground looking for that “long list” of releases Bowie has supposedly left us with.
