Listen To Hannibal Buress’ 5 Favorite Songs On KCRW’s ‘Guest DJ Project’

How do we love thee, Hannibal Buress? Let us count the ways.

Sappy sonnets aside, it’s hard for us to use only words to express the way we feel about the side-splitting standup comedian. We first fell in love when he played “Homeless Guy” on 30 Rock and our feelings only got more intense when he started stealing scenes on Broad City and The Eric Andre Show.

Amidst his busy laugh-inducing schedule, Buress was able to stop by the KCRW studios and sit down with host Anthony Valadez to spin a few of his favorite songs.

The track-listing includes:

1. Lupe Fiasco – “Body of Work”
2. Rustie (feat. Danny Brown) – “Attak”
3. Serengeti – “West of Western”
4. Wale – “The Curse of the Gifted”
5. Open Mike Eagle – “Big Pretty Bridges (3 Days Off in Albuquerque)”

If you’ve seen Buress perform live, then you might recognize some of these tracks because he often uses them to hype up the crowd–and himself!–before taking the stage.

For example, he explains to Valadez he loves “Attak” because “it just has a lot of energy and then that the initial bass drop that happens about 44 seconds in, it just really hits and it’s just a lot of energy and it’s a song you just, you know, can get real hype to.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Buress’ Live From Chicago standup special is currently streaming for free on CC.com.
