Listen to CHVRCHES’ MIRROR’S EDGE CATALYST Theme, “Warning Call”

The bombastic jams of CHVRCHES have always felt otherworldly, with their big synths and progressive song structures that take you through a cinematic beginning-middle-end journey every time. That’s why it makes perfect sense that the band wrote and recorded “Warning Call,” the theme from the upcoming video game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

The band shared the tune today, and it would have fit in excellently on the band’s stellar 2015 album, Every Open Eye. It’s a thumping, melodic anthem that is CHVRCHES at their strongest, by no means a watered-down product busted out for a quick buck.

“We were honored to be asked to contribute to the soundtrack for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst,” the band’s Iain Cook said in a press release (via Pitchfork). “The sound of CHVRCHES’ music resonates with the minimalist sci-fi dystopia of the Mirror’s Edge world, and we feel that the song complements the drama, emotion, and empowering themes of Faith’s story.”

The game, a reboot of the 2008 title Mirror’s Edge, will be released on June 7 in North America. Catalyst runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, and the game seems to have a more open-world feel to it than its predecessor did.

“We basically took the things we really liked about the first game,” Design Director Erik Oeldahl told IGN. “Faith, first and foremost, the first-person free-running gameplay, and also the aesthetics, which we’ve built on, of course. But it’s a reboot. We’re telling Faith’s origin story, so the events of the first game actually don’t really exist. Maybe they will at one time in the future.”

Check out a trailer for the game below.
