If you were a kid growing up in the ’80s, there’s a very good chance you ran home from school as fast as you could to make sure you never missed your weekday afternoon adventures of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Thundercats. (For the record, yours truly was very much that kid). Although you probably made your Masters of the Universe and Thundercats action figures fight one another all the time in your bedroom, you never actually got to experience an official crossover between the two series back in the day. Well, all good things to those who wait. DC Comics has finally crossed over the two science-fantasy cartoons some 30 years later, and He-Man/Thundercats has been totally worth the anticipation!
In the first two issues alone, the Thundercats’ #1 adversary Mumm-Ra invades He-Man’s home planet of Eternia in an effort to seize his Sword of Castle Grayskull, hoping the legendary weapon can help him finally defeat Lion-O’s mystical Sword of Omens. Mumm-Ra fights He-Man in battle, and manages to steal his sword away from him, but before Mumm-Ra can do the whole “evil villain cackle-gloating” thing, He-Man’s nemesis Skeletor makes a last panel appearance and steals the sword away from Mumm-Ra. With Mumm-Ra’s power and the Power of Grayskull finally his, Skeletor still has to face off against the Lord of the Thundercats, Lion-O.
To see just how well Lion-O fares against an all-powerful Skeletor, you can check out our exclusive preview of the first five pages of He-Man/Thundercats #3 in our gallery below.
