Lick the Competition with ‘Smooth Operator’ Kissing Game

Valentine’s Day is almost here, which—for many lovebirds—means plenty of the ol’ face-on-face first basin’. But, as eminent astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson points out, from an Alien perspective, kissing is kind of an “odd” method of expressing attraction.

If only there were some kind of 21st-century way to lock lips and touch tongues without all of that locking of lips and touching of tongues…

Enter: Smooth Operator. Developed by Beardo Games for pretty much every iOS device (including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch), it’s a two-player video game that takes place on one screen, and challenges participants to—you guessed it—”kiss” each other in order to achieve new high scores, as well as figure out their compatibility rating.

Players start by selecting their kissing avatars (who are reminiscent of Metalocalypse characters in terms of appearance), as well as their kissing location; the list for which includes, amongst nine other options, pet shop, laundromat, and of course, arcade.

Gameplay is, at its core, similar to Guitar Hero, in that there is an allotted amount of time, and players must input directional commands (with their fingers) according to sequences of ups, downs, lefts, and rights that stream by on screen. According to the Beardo website, high scores can only be achieved by executing “SUPER MOVES” such as the “Bro Shake” and the “Twister,” both shown below. These moves are unique as they require perfect cooperation between the two players.

The game also includes social media integration for Twitter and Facebook, allowing players to post their best screen shots and compatibility scores for friends and family to see. Although hopefully, with it being Valentine’s Day and all, you’ll get the chance to post some regular photos of you and your significant other in normal real-life human form. And if you find yourself alone (we’ve all been there, or are currently there… so currently there) it doesn’t matter. ‘Cause we’ll go have our own Valentine’s Day, with Blackjack, and Deadpool, and Zoolander 2!
