LG’s New “Rolling Bot” is like a Pet-Friendly BB-8

Okay, let’s break this down. There are cute pets. There are cute robots. But a cute robot you can use to play with your cute pet? That’s cutting-edge cuteness.

LG’s new domestic robot, seen in Digital Trends’ video above, is a bit like a primitive BB-8 that’s been honed for pet owners. Named “Rolling Bot,” it was recently unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and is about the size of a large grapefruit. It’s also controllable from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection, and Wi-Fi in your home.

Like BB-8, Rolling Bot has a bevy of bells and whistles, including an 8MP camera that can record footage, a speakerphone, an IR blaster that allows you to blast Stormtroo — err control your television and other appliances, and what can only be described as the most feline-focused feature in the history of tech: a laser pointer.

The Rolling Bot really does target pet owners in terms of its functionality, as it would allow people to monitor and interact with their animals regardless of where owners may be. You can imagine being in a meeting, all the while using your phone to drive your pet nuts under the table; like what you already do at family dinners. You could even record its reactions and post them to YouTube, which, let’s face it, is going to happen a lot.

No price has been announced for the Rolling Bot, nor is it exactly clear if it only functions using LG’s latest flagship Android smartphone, the LG G5. Although the former was revealed as an accessory along with the latter, so that may be the case. Either way, it will roll out to the masses sometime this year, and will likely be instigating some of the most classic cat GIFs ever seen by humanity.

What do you think about LG’s Rolling Bot? Will you now be able to pester your pets as much as they pester you? Are you going to get any work done in the office ever again? Let us know in the comments section below.
