Let’s Talk about Shae on GAME OF THRONES Because Damnit, Shae!

Oh Shae. Damnit, Shae! Uuuuuuugh Shaaaaaaae noooooooo! If you have no idea why I am raining these emotions down upon you, turn away now because this is likely a spoiler (especially if you haven’t see “The Laws of Gods and Men“). But for the rest of you Game of Thrones fans, let’s get right to it: uuuuugh nooooo, Shae! While her mighty lion thought she was off living the good life in Pentos, turns out she was just lying in wait to put a proverbial nail in Tyrion Lannister’s metaphorical coffin.

Now, some might argue that we should’ve known this was going to happen. Once we saw Sansa’s other handmaiden catch Shae coming out of Tyrion’s room in a fuss, we knew that she was done for — in some way, shape, or form. But her betrayal of Tyrion was downright evil! Eeeeeeeeeviiiiiil, wasn’t it? How could she do this to Tyrion? She was his and he was hers.

Luckily, the show put out a video discussing exactly that. Take a peek:

After watching it all the way through, we understand the emotional urgency behind Shae’s reasoning. There’s a vengeance and bitterness behind Shae’s reasons for lying like that, even though we know Cersei likely forced her to do. But that doesn’t make it hurt any less. I mean, really: isn’t it just so heartbreaking? After all Tyrion’s been through? Shae’s testimony feels like so much more than an opportunistic grab like so many of the bad things that people do to one another on this show. This felt like the ultimate betrayal. Because there was love there. But — hoo boy — is that love gone now. Sigh.

What do you think of what Shae did? Would you do the same were you in that predicament? Let us know in the comments.

The one thing that no-one has said about it was that, in a strange way, I think she was doing it for love. If Cersei told her she will allow him to live and take the black in exchange for her testimony, she may see it as something she can do for the man she loves, while still hurting him back. A win-win for everyone but Tyrion.
