Whatâs your favorite time of year to drink coffee? Winter, spring, summer, or maybe fall? Anytime and every time is right when youâre a Gilmore. After an arduous 9-year break, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Gilmore Girls is back with a brand new, four-episode Netflix series titled Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. The series premieres on November 25, 2016, and since itâs on Netflix during the holidays that means all the binge watching after you awaken from your Thanksgiving-induced food coma!
But Thanksgiving feasting aside, if youâre going to watch the Gilmores youâre going to have to eat like the Gilmores. Darn near impossible I know, but gather some friends and throw together a snack bar worthy of any Stars Hollow celebration.
Where to begin? Oh, with coffee obviously! Coffee is basically a cast member on the show, and if youâre planning on watching the show in one sitting, youâll need to stay awake. See how that all works out? A wall of filled coffee cups is a great backdrop for your buffet table and guests can grab and go throughout the party. If youâre watching alone, well, best of luck and try not to overdo the caffeine.
While I take my coffee black, itâs always polite to put out a little sugar and cream. A tiny coffee pot serves as the most stylish of creamers, although Luke may find it too cutesy for diner-ware. Speaking of Luke, make sure you put up a “No Cellphones” sign. Not only is it a mainstay in the diner, but itâs also smart policy for any viewing party you donât miss any of the fast-and-furious dialogue.
But you can’t just survive on coffee alone; you need food too! Junk food is a fifth food group for Lorelai and Rory, so make sure your party table is stacked with Pop Tarts and Red Vines. And who can forget Rory âs birthday tradition of laying out Mallomars for Lorelai? While she spelled out an entire phrase, just a classic G will be good enough to get the point across. Besides, you can always serve more out of the box so as not to disturb the display.
As for the main event, it’s pizza! While a giant pizza would be ideal, it might not work for your space. Print out some Antonioli’s banners, put them on some tiny boxes, and serve up individual pizza appetizers, because thatâs surely the restaurant from which Lorelai would have ordered her pie. Remember though, if Lorelai decides that the pepperoni is angry at the mushrooms because the mushrooms have an attitude, and then she holds up a pepperoni and the pepperoni asks for your opinion, don’t just laugh. Answer the pepperoni. See? Dean had his moments.
Last, but not least: more take out! I mean, why not? Everyone knows the one place to get Chinese food in Stars Hollow is Alâs Pancake World, so print out a logo, adhere it to your takeaway boxes–which you can fill with homemade Chinese food of your own making or order from your local Al’s Pancake World equivalent–and dinner is served!
All these snacks are making me hungry, is it November 25 yet? Oy with the poodles already!
