Let’s Build a Sonic Screwdriver!

The Doctor’s sonic screwdriver is a sci-fi Swiss army knife. It can do pretty much anything the script calls for, including manipulating objects at a distance. That got me thinking: could you make a literal sonic screwdriver?

In my latest Because Science, we are taking things way too literally — could you actually make a screwdriver that manipulates objects with sound? Sort of. The technology that we have now is far less advanced than something a Gallifreyan would have, but we’re getting closer than you may think. Watch the video above to find out!
