Ska music, where ya been? For more than 20 years, ska punk purveyors, Less Than Jake have been making dance-floor-ready anthems for the punk kids who really got into Sublime, flugelhorns, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Sater back in the day. For the duration of the genre’s existence, Less Than Jake have been there churning out the music and aesthetic that defined a whole generation of alternative music listeners.
To celebrate ska at large as well as their peers operating within the genre, Less Than Jake have, for the last few years, been hosting a weekend festival known as the Wake & Bake Weekend in Gainesville, Florida. This year’s festival will throw down September 5 – 6 at the High Dive. In addition to live sets from MC Lars, The Supervillains, The Attack, Kashâd Out, Mrs. Skannotto, and You Vandal; the weekend also includes karaoke with LTJ as your backing band, as well as the opportunity to buy rare and out-of-print LPs from the band. Pretty sweeeet.
Ahead of this year’s festival, which takes place September 5 through 6, Less Than Jake have compiled an album featuring this weekend’s guest performers. With tracks from all the guest performers, you should have enough new ska to tide you over into autumn.
So go ahead and give the album a spin, dance a funky jig, and let us know what you think in the comments below!
