Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Quentin Tarantino’s MANSON Picture

The idea of Quentin Tarantino making a Pulp Fiction-esque period film set in Hollywood during the time of the Charles Manson murders is a strange one, and we still have next to no idea what the movie will actually be. But at least we know Tarantino seems keen to work with people’s he’s already worked with on it. On top of Brad Pitt, who is reportedly “circling” the project, Deadline is now reporting that Tarantino’s Django Unchained co-star Leonardo DiCaprio has been tapped.

DiCaprio will play “an aging actor” evidently, though whether this is a fictional character created specifically for the story or an actual aging actor from 1969 is unknown. Margot Robbie has been approached to play Sharon Tate, the the very real pregnant young actress and wife of filmmaker Roman Polanski, who was brutally murdered along with four others in her home by Manson Family members on August 9, 1969. So at the very least, the movie will feature some of the murder victims, if not the actual murders. Tom Cruise has apparently also been approached for a role.

Tarantino has obviously cast DiCaprio before — as the frothing slave owner Calvin Candie in the 2012 film Django Unchained  — but that wasn’t the first film he wanted DiCaprio for. It was widely reported that Tarantino had initially wanted DiCaprio to play Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. The role was eventually filled by Christoph Waltz, which won him an Oscar.

Whatever this movie ends up being, a new Tarantino movie will always be a source of anticipation. The film is being produced by Sony.
