Have you got any plans for the first Friday the 13th of 2017? In theory, you may want to binge Netflix’s new remake of Lemony Snicket‘s A Series of Unfortunate Events on Friday, January 13, 2017. But none other than Lemony Snicket himself is warning you to stay away from his show for the benefit of your own sanity.
Before you say “hey! That’s not Jude Law!”–remember that Patrick Warburton has stepped into the role of author Daniel Handler’s famous alter ego. Warburton’s voice is so dialed back in this promo, that he really does seem to be stepping out of his usual onscreen persona. There’s also no footage from the show in Netflix’s new video for the series, as Warburton’s Snicket advises fans to “look away before this dire tale is even filmed, and avoid the cruel whimsy and whimsical cruelty of what’s to come.” There’s also a vocal cameo by Neil Patrick Harris, who portrays Count Olaf. Will Harris be singing on the show? We think he will be!
This story was originally adapted as a feature film in 2004, but now Harris is stepping into the creepy role that Jim Carrey played on the big screen as he menaces the three Baudelaire siblings and attempts to steal their family’s fortune. Joan Cusack, Aasif Mandvi, K. Todd Freeman, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes will also star in the eight episode season; which will adapt four of the novels in Handler’s 13 book series.
