LEGO WORLDS Is Stacking up Against MINECRAFT

Move over Minecraft, there’s a new kid on the blocks. Warner Bros. Interactive has finally announced their very own Minecraft competitor– LEGO Worlds. This open world sandbox game includes procedurally generated play areas that can be explored and altered to your liking using in-game LEGO sets. Call me crazy, but this sounds oddly similar to another title.

To be fair, Minecraft was always considered to be the virtual version of playing with LEGO blocks. With that in mind, it makes sense that the company is trying to capitalize on the huge surge in popularity that the video game versions of the toys have become. They are pulling “a Disney” by using all of the intellectual properties that they have at their disposal to take over the world. And it’s kind of working.

The featured trailer shows off the glamor of building and creating worlds straight from your imagination. The trailer also shows off a dragon, character customizations, and even a giant drill that lays waste to a huge block mountain. The game is available right now through Steam Early Access for $14.99. There are some key features and sets missing at the moment since it is an Early Access game.

It’s a bold move to enter the ring against such a prominent phenomenon– one that reaches further than just about anything in the video game world. Even if they don’t want to admit it, this title will have to stack up against Mojang’s colossal titan. At this point, Minecraft has the edge on building mechanics and since it has been trendy for so long now, the tools have also been fine-tuned. Hopefully, both games become better through time due to competition. Both are backed by companies with a lot of cash flow, so the battle for supremacy should heat up rather quickly.

Let’s not forget that LEGO Dimensions is also set to release this year. It’s going to get interesting with all of the different intellectual properties at their disposal. Stack your thoughts up in the comments section below.
