THE LEGO MOVIE 2 Trailer Answers Fans’ Biggest Question

It’s been four years since the improbably successful The LEGO Movie introduced moviegoers to its crossover world mashup that featured the debut of Emmet, Wyldstyle, and Unikitty alongside LEGO Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more familiar faces re-imagined through the lens of everyone’s tiny interconnected bricks. How can the aptly named sequel, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, possibly follow up on the first film’s story? You don’t have to wait until 2019 to find out. Today’s Nerdist News dives into The LEGO Movie 2‘s trailer for answers!

Join host and master builder Jessica Chobot as she briefly revisits the twist of the original LEGO Movie. That story turned out to be a bonding experience between a LEGO loving father and his extremely creative young son who built the narrative around his father’s massive collection. In the end, the father realized that his LEGO toys were meant to be played with, and he told his son that he would have to share them with his younger sister. Immediately afterwards, the LEGO heroes were faced with alien invaders made out of Duplo bricks.

The trailer reveals the Duplos apparently transformed the once vibrant LEGO world into a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic wasteland. And while the young girl’s toys may be blamed, we suspect it’s the ever changing interests of her brother that led to the big changes. The new footage also confirms the  girl may be the guiding force behind the story and we could be in for a brother and sister bonding experience. Perhaps the film will explore the siblings’ relationship as they play together, or it may go the Toy Story route and show us the brother relinquishing his toys so his sister can enjoy them.
