Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, and Wall-E all got their own dedicated LEGO sets thanks to LEGO Ideas, the fan-submission process by which anyone can design a concept in existing bricks, and once it gets over 10,000 votes, it will be considered for possible mass-marketing as an official set.
What won this time? Well, we kinda spoiled one of the two winners for you in the headline because it was too exciting to keep to ourselves for this long. Announcing…LEGO Adventure Time!
Note that the image is of the fan submission, which may be tweaked a bit as needed for safety, aesthetics, and licensor approval. The other winner, Caterham Super Seven, reproduces vintage English race cars.
Not as nerdy in the sense we often use the term, perhaps – but super-nerdy if you’re a gearhead.
These sets beat out the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, The Little Prince, a physics set involving balls and dominoes, a large library playset, Jurassic World‘s Indominus Rex, and two ridiculously huge Tolkien-inspired playsets that frankly never had a chance, as they’d have to cost around $1000: Lothlorien and Rivendell.
Adventure Time and the Caterham Super Seven sets will be available towards the end of 2016 and early 2017; in the meantime, the Lego gang are already going through the next bunch of finalists, which include the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and the animated Beatles in their Yellow Submarine. We all live…for those results.
