Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” and Beethoven’s 5th Get a Dazzling Cello Mashup

When I think about Beethoven I certainly don’t think about Led Zeppelin, and when I think about Led Zeppelin I certainly don’t think about Beethoven. At least that was true, anyway. But not anymore. Not after this gorgeous and totally kick-ass mashup of the two.

This two-cello performance comes to use from the amazing duo 2CELLOS (the most on the nose name on the internet), and, simply put, it is freaking awesome. The two cellists, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, arranged the piece that combines Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” and Beethoven’s “5th Symphony” in to a beautiful meeting of the classical and a classic rock song.

Special kudos to the effort behind making the video for the song look just as good as its music sounds. It’s not only the two of them who change their costumes to match the musicians they are covering—every member of the audience gets in on the act. It can’t be easy to find that many articles of early 19th century clothing just lying around, but they did it.

While everything about this is genuinely dazzling, the breakdown in the middle might be my favorite part. I expect to be moved by Beethoven’s work, and I expect to rock my face off with Zeppelin, but doing both at once is something special.

If this is your first time hearing these two play, well then congratulations on experiencing the joy that is their YouTube page.
