We’re going to get this out of the way early, so cue the audience groan track: Play with yourself in the shower with these NES controller soaps!
OK, now that the dirty soap pun is out of the way, let’s get down to how cool these are. Molded and shaped soaps are nothing new, but these really blur the line between realistic and reproduction. The makers of these fine toiletries, DigitalSoaps, don’t just stop at classic gaming system controllers, either. Over on their Etsy shop, you can find an assortment of awesome looking soaps perfect for any nerd’s bathroom, no matter what system loyalty you might have. Xbox controllers, Poké balls, Nintendo 64 cartridges, and more await your purchase!
There’s something irresistibly classic about the Nintendo Entertainment System controller soaps, though. For one, the form factor–flat and rectangular–is perfect for your already-existing soap dishes. The molding and detailing is also well executed, due largely to the fact that the controller is already a very basic design. The cross-shaped directional pad and the two action buttons make for such a successful combination, Nintendo re-used that schematic for their Wiimotes two decades later with some clever tweaking.
Oh, and did I mention these soaps are soda-scented? Yes indeed, friends, not only are they a visual novelty, but they will please your olfactory sense as well. Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper are the two scented options, which is a better choice than, say, “cartridge dust.” We’re not condoning blowing into your NES or NES cartridge to clean it out, but it sure did seem to work.
